WALL ART TOOLKIT GUIDE

Poster Sizes on a Wall

Choose poster sizes for a wall using room context, furniture width and standard poster dimensions. Estimate a useful visual width, then match it to frames and print resolution.

Start with proportion, not a single “perfect” poster size. A poster should feel intentional relative to the wall, furniture and viewing distance. Use the estimator below as a planning range, then check the actual composition in your room.

Poster size for a wall estimator

For art hung over furniture, a common visual-planning approach is to make the art or art grouping roughly 60–75% of the furniture width. This is a design guideline, not a building rule.

For a 72 in target width, start comparing art/groupings around 43–54 in wide.

Single poster or gallery grouping?

Single poster

Use one strong size when you want a clear focal point. Check both the poster dimensions and the outside frame dimensions.

Multiple pieces

Treat the full grouping width—including gaps—as the visual artwork width when comparing it with furniture or wall space.

Do not forget print resolution

Once you choose a physical poster size, check whether the source image has enough pixels for the intended viewing distance. A larger wall does not automatically mean the file can support a larger print.
