Poster Frame Sizes
Compare common poster frame sizes for 11×17, 12×18, 18×24, 20×30 and 24×36 posters, then check whether a poster and frame are a direct size match.
Common poster frame sizes: 11×17, 12×18, 18×24, 20×30 and 24×36 inches are widely used poster formats. Match the nominal frame size to the poster for a no-mat fit; choose a larger frame if you want a mat.
Poster frame size chart

|---|---|---|---|
| 11×17 | 11:17 | 11×17 | — |
| 12×18 | 2:3 | 12×18 | 20×30, 24×36 |
| 18×24 | 3:4 | 18×24 | 12×16 |
| 20×30 | 2:3 | 20×30 | 12×18, 24×36 |
| 24×36 | 2:3 | 24×36 | 12×18, 20×30 |
Same-ratio sizes share proportions only; they are not interchangeable frame sizes. Match the physical poster and nominal frame dimensions for a direct no-mat fit.

Poster size is not the outside frame size
A frame sold as 24×36 is generally named for the artwork it is designed to hold, not the decorative outside dimensions. The visible opening can be slightly smaller because the frame lip overlaps the poster edge.
Movie posters and non-standard formats
Some movie, concert and international poster formats do not match the most common U.S. ready-made frames. Measure the actual sheet before buying and use a mat or custom frame when the proportions differ.
