3:4 Ratio Print Size Calculator & Chart
Calculate a matching 3:4 print dimension, check common 3:4 sizes, and see the pixel dimensions needed for a 300 PPI reference print.
Free 3:4 ratio print size calculator
Enter either the short side or long side of a print. The calculator returns the exact matching dimension for a 3:4 shape. It also shows a 300 PPI pixel reference for that physical size.
300 PPI is a preparation reference, not a guarantee of print quality. Source detail, viewing distance, printer and paper also affect the final result.
3:4 ratio print dimensions chart
Every size below has the same 3:4 shape, so the composition can scale between them without changing the crop. Pixel dimensions are shown at a 300 PPI reference.
| Print dimensions | Pixel dimensions at 300 PPI | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| 6 × 8 inches | 1800 × 2400 pixels | 3:4 |
| 9 × 12 inches | 2700 × 3600 pixels | 3:4 |
| 12 × 16 inches | 3600 × 4800 pixels | 3:4 |
| 15 × 20 inches | 4500 × 6000 pixels | 3:4 |
| 18 × 24 inches | 5400 × 7200 pixels | 3:4 |
| 24 × 32 inches | 7200 × 9600 pixels | 3:4 |
What does a 3:4 ratio mean?
A 3:4 ratio compares the short side with the long side. If the short side is 3 inches, the matching long side is 4 inches. If the short side is 12 inches, the matching long side is 16 inches. The physical size changes, but the rectangular shape stays the same.
For landscape artwork, the same family is written 4:3. A 12×9 landscape print and a 9×12 portrait print have the same proportions with the orientation reversed.
Is 8×10 a 3:4 ratio?
No. An 8×10 print reduces to a 4:5 ratio, which is slightly squarer than 3:4. Printing a 3:4 artwork at 8×10 without distortion normally requires cropping some of the image or adding borders.
3:4 examples
6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 18×24 and 24×32 inches.
4:5 examples
8×10, 12×15, 16×20, 20×25 and 24×30 inches.
How many pixels are needed for a 3:4 print?
For a 300 PPI reference, multiply each print dimension in inches by 300. A 12×16 inch print therefore corresponds to 3600×4800 pixels. A file can still be usable at other effective PPI values depending on the print process, source detail and viewing distance.
If you already know your artwork's pixel dimensions, use the Print Size Calculator instead of assuming that a ratio alone determines quality.
3:4 ratio FAQ
What print sizes are 3:4 ratio?
Common exact 3:4 sizes include 6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 15×20, 18×24 and 24×32 inches.
Is 12×16 a 3:4 ratio?
Yes. 12:16 reduces exactly to 3:4.
Is 18×24 a 3:4 ratio?
Yes. Dividing both dimensions by 6 gives 3:4.
Is 8×10 a 3:4 ratio?
No. 8×10 is 4:5, so a 3:4 image needs a different crop for an exact 8×10 print.
What is 3:4 in pixels?
There is no single pixel size for a ratio. Examples include 1800×2400, 2700×3600 and 3600×4800 pixels. They all share the same 3:4 shape.
What is the landscape version of 3:4?
It is usually written 4:3. The proportions are the same; only the orientation changes.
