Enter either the short side or long side of a print. The calculator returns the exact matching dimension for a 4:5 shape. It also shows a 300 PPI pixel reference for that physical size.

8 × 10 inches is an exact 4:5 print.

300 PPI is a preparation reference, not a guarantee of print quality. Source detail, viewing distance, printer and paper also affect the final result.

What does a 4:5 ratio mean?

A 4:5 ratio compares the short side with the long side. If the short side is 4 inches, the matching long side is 5 inches. If the short side is 16 inches, the matching long side is 20 inches. The physical size changes, but the rectangular shape stays the same.

For landscape artwork, the same family is written 5:4. A 10×8 landscape print and an 8×10 portrait print have the same proportions with the orientation reversed.

Is 8×10 a 4:5 ratio?

Yes. An 8×10 print reduces exactly to 4:5. This makes 8×10 one of the most familiar sizes in the 4:5 family, along with 16×20 and 24×30.

2:3 includes 8×12 and 12×18; 3:4 includes 9×12 and 12×16.

How many pixels are needed for a 4:5 print?

For a 300 PPI reference, multiply each print dimension in inches by 300. An 8×10 inch print therefore corresponds to 2400×3000 pixels. A file can still be usable at other effective PPI values depending on the print process, source detail and viewing distance.

If you already know your artwork's pixel dimensions, use the Print Size Calculator instead of assuming that a ratio alone determines quality.

4:5 ratio FAQ

What print sizes are 4:5 ratio?

Common exact 4:5 sizes include 4×5, 8×10, 12×15, 16×20, 20×25 and 24×30 inches.

Is 8×10 a 4:5 ratio?

Yes. Dividing both dimensions by 2 gives exactly 4:5.

Is 16×20 a 4:5 ratio?

Yes. Dividing both dimensions by 4 gives exactly 4:5.

Is 12×15 a 4:5 ratio?

Yes. Dividing both dimensions by 3 gives exactly 4:5.

What is 4:5 in pixels?

There is no single pixel size for a ratio. Examples include 1200×1500, 2400×3000 and 4800×6000 pixels. They all share the same 4:5 shape.

What is the landscape version of 4:5?

It is usually written 5:4. The proportions are the same; only the orientation changes.
