ETSY SELLER COST GUIDE

Etsy Fees Explained for Sellers: What Actually Comes Out of a Sale?

Etsy fees are layered. This guide separates the charges that most sellers need to model so you can estimate profit without treating every fee as one percentage.

THE SHORT VERSION

What fees should an Etsy seller plan for?

Most Etsy sellers need to account for a listing fee, a transaction fee and Etsy Payments processing. Depending on the order and seller, Offsite Ads, currency conversion, regulatory fees, VAT on seller fees or other country-specific charges can also apply.

FeeTypical ruleWhat it is based on

Fee rules can change. Wall Art Toolkit last verified these core Etsy fee references in August 2026.

1. Listing fees are small, but they still belong in your cost model

Etsy currently publishes a US$0.20 listing fee. A listing can also renew, and multi-quantity sales can create additional listing fees. One fee may look tiny, but high listing volume and repeated renewals can make it meaningful over time.

For unit economics, do not hide the listing fee inside a vague “Etsy percentage.” Keep fixed fees and percentage fees separate so you can see which products are most affected.

2. The 6.5% transaction fee also applies to shipping charged to the buyer

This is one of the most important details for physical and print-on-demand sellers. Etsy says the transaction fee is charged on the total order amount and includes shipping when you charge the customer for shipping. That means customer-paid shipping is not automatically cost-neutral.

If a customer pays US$5 for shipping and your production partner also charges you US$5, you may still lose a little money on the shipping portion because Etsy fees can apply to the amount collected from the customer.

3. Payment processing changes by country

Etsy Payments processing is a percentage plus a fixed amount, and the rate depends on the location of the seller's bank account. For example, Etsy currently lists Mexico at 4.5% + MX$8 and the United States at 3% + US$0.25. The fee is in addition to the 6.5% transaction fee.

This is why a calculator that uses one global Etsy fee percentage can be misleading. Seller country matters.

4. Offsite Ads can change a profitable order into a weak-margin order

For attributed orders, Etsy currently describes Offsite Ads fees of 15% for shops below the US$10,000 threshold and 12% for shops that have reached that threshold. Whether participation can be disabled also depends on the shop's sales history.

If your margins are tight, test your price both with and without an Offsite Ads fee so you know whether an attributed sale is still worth taking.

For current rules, always verify against Etsy's own documentation: fees and taxes for selling on Etsy, Etsy Payments processing fees by country, and Offsite Ads rules.

Calculate your own Etsy price and profit

Reading the fee structure is useful, but your real result depends on your country, product costs, shipping, advertising and target profit. The free calculator works in both directions: check what you keep from an existing price, or calculate the selling price needed for a target margin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main Etsy transaction fee?

Etsy currently publishes a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total, including shipping charged to the buyer and gift wrap where applicable.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. Etsy states that its transaction fee applies to shipping charged to the customer, and payment processing is also calculated from the total sale amount according to the seller's country rules.

Are Etsy fees the same in every country?

No. Payment processing and some regulatory or tax-related charges vary by seller country and payment-account location.

Should I include Offsite Ads when pricing?

If an order may be attributed to Offsite Ads, it is useful to test that scenario because the additional fee can materially reduce profit.
